International Women's Day: Why Leading Ladies Inspire Me

Today is one of my favourite days of the year...International Women's Day! I knew that I wanted to do something creative this year for my blog and I have really enjoyed creating this post for you today. I have been working with my talented photographer Josey to create some really cool shots to be included in today's post. Today I have rounded up all the reasons as to why leading ladies inspire me so much to celebrate International Women's Day. Whether this is in a movie, in my family, somebody online, a friend...it could be anyone who inspires me! There's nothing like being a strong independent woman...am I right?

'Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.' Elle Woods

Seeing strong women in the film world playing leading roles is my absolute favourite. If a film has a bad ass, strong and incredible female leading character, then I know it's going to be good! We have started to see more and more of these characters taking to the screen and I think it sends out such an amazing message. There are so many female characters who we have seen on screen that I find so inspirational and love to watch in the films. Since I am such a huge film fan, I thought that it was only right to shoot some images for today's post inspired by some of my favourite female characters. I decided to pick Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City and the ladies from Charlies Angels. These characters haven been an inspiration to me in the film world and I really love the characters that they play! Elle Woods has style, passion, confidence, motivation, aspirations and so much more! She is such an iconic character that everyone loves. Carrie Bradshaw is also another iconic character known for her style! She has been a leading lady that I loved for years and I find her character so inspiring. Hard working, passionate, determined and so classy. Finally, the ladies of Charlies Angels are epic. They are so bad ass, powerful, clever and so gorgeous. I have always loved the films are they are such empowering women!

There are so many different female characters out there that people find inspiring for many different reasons. Seeing ladies lead the film world is such an amazing thing to see and it makes me really happy that these ladies are getting the opportunities like this and having the chance to play some really iconic characters. Captain Marvel is one that I am really exited to see this month! There are already some amazing women within the Marvel universe, but Captain Marvel is one to have her very own film and is going to be an iconic character for sure! Ladies can be super heroes just as much as men! I would be so interested to hear all about your favourite iconic leading ladies of the screen. There are so many that I love but I bet there are so many that I haven't heard of before which means more films for me to watch! If you're wanting to feel inspired and empowered, then I 100% recommend watching a film which has an amazing female character in!

'I like my money where I can see it. Hanging in my closet.' Carrie Bradshaw

'Maybe you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be.' Carrie Bradshaw

'Maybe the best any of us can do is not to quit, play the hand we've been given, and accessorise the outfit we've got.' Carrie Bradshaw

'And finally, the most important break up rule: no matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you'll never go through it without your friends.' Carrie Bradshaw

Seeing female's change the world is an amazing thing to see. Whether this is standing up for what they believe in or using their platform to share inspiring messages. I personally feel like I see something inspiring from a female on a daily basis. This could be an epic photo on Instagram, a news article, a tweet, something I see at work and the list is endless. I love seeing women achieve and it makes me proud to be a woman! There are females out there who are winning awards, becoming CEO of their own company, changing industries that are mainly male dominated, doing amazing charity work, speaking up about what they believe in and so much more. Ellen Degeneres is a female that I always think of when it comes to inspiring women. She is constantly helping out others and changing people's lives. She always promotes such amazing messages and has the kindest heart. She spends so much of her time helping out the people who need or or the animals who need it. I think she has so many inspiring stories and I am always excited to see what she will do next!

There are also so many amazing female bloggers out there who are killing the game at the moment. These women are posting some amazing images on Instagram everyday which scream girl boss to me! Girl boss has got to be one of my favourite phrases for sure. Everyone loves to be in Girl Boss mode! These female bloggers are really showing people how it's done and building their own empires. From writing books, to releasing products with brands, promoting healthy lifestyles, speaking up about Mental Health, using their platforms to raise money for charity and so much more. I follow so many amazing women on social media platforms and everyday I feel inspired about the content that they are posting. These bloggers really help me feel motivated and get me into such a productive and motivated mind frame. This could be getting me motivated about my blog, getting my love back for fashion, motivating me to go to the gym or even getting me feeling excited about cleaning...if you know Mrs Hinch, you will know exactly what I'm talking about!

An inspirational female doesn't have to be a public figure, it could be someone close to you like a family member or friend or even someone you work with. There are so many amazing females out there doing everyday things like a champion! Mother. Auntie. Cousin. Sister. Grandma. Friend. Boss. Colleague. Teacher. Niece. There can be so many inspirational women in your life and surrounding yourself with these types of people is an amazing thing for you. When it comes to thinking of an inspirational women, a lot of the time you may instantly think of someone in the public eye. But, most of the inspiring women are the one's we see every single day. It could be the mum you have walked past in the street who is looking after her daughter. She has already cleaned the house from top to bottom, walked the dogs, gone to work, done the weekly food shop, helped her daughter with her homework, made a delicious tea for the house, run several errands, had friends over for coffee and the day isn't even over yet. It could be the Doctor at your hospital appointment. She has already worked for 15 hours straight but still has a smile on her face and is happy to help with whatever you need. It could be your boss at work who is showing you that that women can have their voice heard in a male dominated business and be respected by everyone. People want to hear her ideas and her strong and confident attitude is working amazing as always. Although she is stressed, she still powers on and still does a million things in her personal life as well as working non stop. At the end of the day, you never know what someone is going through and I can guarantee that you will pass so many other women on a daily basis who are doing so much stuff and being an absolute Wonder Woman! It doesn't have to be a big world change, big movie or big charitable donation in order it to be seen as inspirational. It can be the everyday things that people don't even think about!

'Flip your goddamn hair.' Alex Charlies Angels

'And that's kicking your ass!' Dylan Charlies Angels

'I'll have three burgers, three French Fries and three Cherry Pies. What do you guys want?' Dylan Charlies Angels

'I get to kick butt with my two best friends. You think I'd give that up?' Charlies Angels

Personally, I love being female! I think together, we can achieve some pretty amazing stuff. I love how each and every one us is different in our own way. There are so many different fashion choices, hair colours and styles, hobbies, beauty looks, interests and so much more. I love that girls can be all different shapes and sizes, have different coloured skin, be from different countries...it's great! I personally love that there are so many different females out there and that everyone is unique in their own way. I really hate the opinions that women should look a certain way, be a certain size, like certain things...let's face it, this way of seeing things is absolute rubbish and I am so happy to see so many girls going against this. A woman shouldn't have to look at a certain way to be seen on a magazine cover of in a movie or get the job...it's all about the personality of someone, not what they look like. There should be no standards when it comes to how a women should look and I am so happy to see girls standing up for what they believe in. Seeing a range of women on magazine covers, all shapes and sizes is what it's all about and promotes the right kind of messages! There's no wonder that girls feel such pressure to look a certain way if all we are doing is plastering one type of girl every where we look. Although it does still happen so so much in this day and age, it's also slowly changing and finally the right things are starting to be seen!

When a women is described as a warrior, a girl boss, a bad ass, wonder woman...all of these things I think are some of the biggest compliments you can give a woman. If someone sees you as a strong and independent women, then take this as something to be proud of. I hate when some people look down on women looking after themselves and being independent...you don't need a man to be able to run your life!

I think it's amazing to see other women supporting other women. When girls come together, they can achieve some amazing things! I hate seeing other girls bring each other down, there's really no need for it at all. Complimenting each other, supporting each other and praising each other will get you really far in life and will help to surround you with much better people. We all want to make sure that the younger girls starting to grow up receive the right messages in terms of being a female. Letting them know that they can look however they want, do whatever they want and letting them know how important it is to be kind. The things we see on social media, magazine covers and on the TV can really have an impact on how we see ourselves, so the more that we get the important and positive messages out there, the better! Allowing someone to feel body confident and happy with themselves is the best thing a girl can achieve! And if she has that...she's pretty much unstoppable!

So there we have it...My International Women's Day post! I have been looking forward to posting this ever since I came up with the idea and I'm really happy with how everything turned out. I had so much fun shooting these images for the blog as it's something a little different and inspired by some of my favourite leading ladies. I just wanted to say a big thank you again to my photographer Josey who helped me capture these images. Over the course of the day, I have been sharing these images over on my Instagram if you want to see more from me over there!

I wanted today's post to be full of tips and advice and also lots of positivity around what it's like to be a female and why leading ladies inspire me so much. I really hope it put you ladies in a good mood and if there happen to be any guys reading this post...I hope it reminded you how epic us girls can be! I would love to see any of your blog posts that you have written for International Women's Day or if you have posted any Instagram pictures, I would love to like and comment on them! Remember to use your voice as a women to create an impact and make change happen. The best support that we have is each other and if girls join together, we can be pretty unstoppable!
