I turned 21!

So Thursday was a big day for me...I turned 21! I thought it would be the perfect time to write a new lifestyle post about 21 things that I have learnt in 21 years. I did this post last year for my 20th and it went down really well so I thought I would start a bit of a tradition and keep this going. I was at work for most of my birthday which wasn't a bad day believe it or not! My work friends decorated my desk and gave me some really lovely gifts. I really do work with the most amazing people and it makes such a big difference to the work! I spent the evening having a takeaway and watching Mamma Mia with the family...what a dream! I wanted the night to be quite chilled as it was the big party on Friday. I had a movie themed fancy dress party and got to dress up as one of my favourite characters...Wonder Woman! Everyone who came made a big effort and the room looked so amazing. From Jack Sparrow, to Mike and Sully, to The Greatest Showman...the room was filled with lots of my favourite film characters and it was an amazing night!

After that rundown of my birthday, lets move onto the main part of the post! Here are 21 things that I have learnt in 21 years!

All photos in this post were taken by the incredible Josey Grace Photography! Josey has also just got her website back up and running with her first blog post so please go and check it out!

1. Why reaching out is important

It's sometimes so easy to get caught up in social media and thinking you have caught up on someone's life just by looking at their Instagram or Facebook page. Liking their pictures and scrolling through their page isn't the same thing as giving them a call or going to see them and seeing how they are. I think it's something that some people often forget and need to remember how important things like this are. I always make sure I check up on people to see how they are, you never know when someone needs it!

2. It's okay to make mistakes

Making a mistake is always something I have been hard on myself for and is still something I am working on. No matter how big or small, I know so many other people who can be hard on themselves for making a mistake. Mistakes are completely normal as not everyone is perfect! Making mistakes doesn't mean you failed, it's just a stepping stone and will usually mean you learn something from it. 'Mistakes have the power to turn you into something better than you were before.'

3. Is it time for another tattoo?

I currently have 2 tattoos and I'm thinking about my next one! The two that I have gotten so far are small and I really love them. They both mean something to me and that's an important part of getting a tattoo for me. I have some ideas for my next one but it's just choosing the right time to get it done! Everyone always asks me if getting a tattoo hurts and I'm not going to lie...yes it does! I think everyone feels pain differently so it's hard to say if it will hurt or not. If you're thinking about getting one, my advice would be to make sure you're 100% sure on your decision! I always like to choose a place where it's optional to cover up but that's just my opinion.

4. Working out the perfect life balance

Now this is something that I touched briefly on in my last post but it has been one of my biggest things I have learnt this year. This has been the year for me that has been the busiest so working out the right balance for everything was very important! Having a full time job, social life and working on everything else in between is a lot to finding the right balance is something everyone needs to take the time to do. Work out what's important and make sure you take time to wind down and relax as you don't want to get stressed and too overworked!

5. My love for fashion is getting stronger

Fashion is always something that I have had an interest in but over the past year I have loved reading about it, finding inspiration and learning about different aspects of it a lot more. There are so many amazing fashion icons out there and I love seeing how they style different outfits. I have really loved finding out more about how to style different items, what colours work well together and experimenting more with fashion! My current fashion icons are In the Frow, Little Mix, Vanessa Hudgens, Lydia Millen, Michelle Keegan and so many more!

6. Autumn is 100% my favourite season

Now this is something that I have always known but every time it comes around again, I forget how much I love it! One of my favourite things about Autumn is the colours! The leaves, fashion, lipstick's all so pretty! The fashion for me is so much better in Autumn and I love wearing darker shades. I feel like this time of year is a lot cosier and I really don't mind the darker evenings!

7. Skincare is something you can't forget

I am so happy that I got into skincare early on as it's an important part of my daily routine. I got into learning about skincare through blogging and YouTube and now I can't miss it out of my day. Looking after your skin is so important and learning about your skin and what it best for you is also something you need to know. I have tried out so many different skin products and I am so happy with my current skincare routine as everything works really well for me! Looking after your skin as early as you can will make such a difference and your skin deserves the time and attention!

8. Inspiration is everything!

I am someone who gets inspired easily. There are a lot of people out there who are working so hard and doing a lot of amazing things! Whether it's a film I have watched, an Instagram image I have seen, a speech someone has made, a song I have listened to and more! I love finding inspiration on a daily basis and there are definitely some stand out icons for me at the minute. In The Frow still continues to inspire me with her blog, YouTube channel and Instagram page! A Star Is Born is a recent film that has been so inspiring an I adore the soundtrack. Finally, Nikki Reed continues to inspire me with her love and passion for the world! There are so many other things but those are just a few!

9. My happy place is the cinema!

I still continue to go to the cinema every week and I love watching new films all the time! Going to the cinema makes me happy and lets me turn off for a few hours each week! There is always something new I want to see and I am glad I get the chance to go to the cinema once...or even more than that every week!

10. Don't make effort for people who wouldn't do the same for you

Now I think this is something that everyone learns at some point in their life. Everyone knows that people can come in and out of your life and sometimes you have to be the one to make the decision on if you want to make the effort with someone anymore. Sometimes you can make a lot of effort with someone and try with them, but you get nothing in return. This is just the way it works sometimes and unfortunately that's part of life. If someone doesn't want to make an effort with you, then it shouldn't be one sided. You shouldn't have to put all the effort in and work hard on a relationship that isn't worth it...

11. Comparing yourself to others is a dangerous place

This is something that a lot of people have talked about and it is an important topic. As social media is so big now, we are constantly seeing people that we look up to and want to look like. I always see images of ladies on a daily basis who I think look amazing and I wish I could look like. I think comparing yourself to others is something that everyone does and can make us think badly of ourselves. I am always wishing to look like other people and change things about's something that I am still working on but is a hard thing in this day and age! Although it's hard, try not to compare yourself to others as remember what we see on social media is all the good parts! 'Admire someone else's beauty without questioning your own.'

12. Friendships

Now this topic is a difficult one and is always one I find hard to sum up in a few sentences. Friendships can be a complicated one and is different for every single person. Some friendships last forever, some friendships can come and go and some can come into your life unexpectedly. Some friendships can fade away and this can be hard, but it's also completely normal. Some friendships can come into your life and be the best even though you haven't know them that long. Friendships are full of so many different emotions and sometimes they can be the hardest thing. But most of the time...they are the best! Friends can make a huge difference in your life and can give you some of the best memories.

13. Things I wished I'd been taught in school

Now this is something that I always think about. In school we get taught about the cells of a leaf, maths calculations that I can't even remember and so many more things that are useless for most people. What I did wish they taught us were things that would be really helpful for later in life. Tax, mortgages, relationships, Mental Health and so many more important topics. I feel like nobody teaches us about these topics and they are so important to know! I can honestly say that I have no idea how a mortgage works and I am getting to that point in life where I am starting to think about moving out. Mental Health is such a huge topic now, yet I don't remember it been talked about at all in high school. I know that a lot of people agree with me on this and it's something that still hasn't changed.

14. My travel bucket list is continuing to grow

As there are so many amazing travel bloggers our there, I am always finding the urge to book a plane ticket and go and see more of the world. Travelling is something that I have already done but I'm always wanting to do more of it. I have seen so many amazing places that I love but there are still so many more places to see. My travel wish list is continuing to grow and I can't wait to book my next travel destination. The top places on my list at the minute are Canada, Greece and America! I would love to read any travel blog posts or see any of your travel pictures on Instagram!

15. Why you shouldn't pressure yourself to be in a relationship

A question that I always get asked when being with a group of people or going to see family is...have you got yourself a boyfriend yet? Now I do understand why this is something people ask, but I don't feel like it's the most important thing that everyone has to ask about. If someone is in a relationship, then that's great! But if someone is single and is happy with that, then that's equally as good! There is a pressure to be in a relationship for a lot of people and I think it's a subject that doesn't need to be asked about as much as it is. If you are currently not in a relationship like me, then don't feel pressured by everyone else to go out and find someone. I believe that things will happen when it's time and you should enjoy the time on your own.

16. Finally enjoying work

I'm 21 and I am happy to say that I am in a job that I love. I currently have a full time job which of course takes up most of my time, but I do enjoy it! I definitely notice a difference from my previous jobs and it makes such a change. I work with some amazing people and it makes my work so much more enjoyable. I have met some of my best friends at work and I think it's an amazing opportunity to meet so many people. I have learnt so many things at my job and am till continuing to learn. If you are in a job that you enjoy, it can make such a difference to your life!

17. There is no planet B

Now this is one of the most important topics of this post and is one I am most passionate about. You all probably know by now that the environment and the world is around me is something I care about massively and is something I have always been interested in. I have loved that in the last year, we have started to finally discuss the problems this world is facing more globally and people are starting to listen. But the problem we are still facing is that people read about it and share about it, but then they don't actually do anything that will help to make a difference. Now don't get me wrong, there are so many people doing some amazing things to help the planet and get the message out there and these people inspire me more than anyone. But as you get older, you do start to realise that we need to change the way we do things as there is no planet B. We need to start taking care of the planet a lot more and start thinking about how our choices can change the future!

18. Surround yourself with positivity

'Surround yourself with positive souls and positive vibes come naturally. Your environment influences your experience. Make it a positive one.'

19. My love for the blog is back!

As you will have all seen last week, I am back! After having some time off the blog, I am back and feeling more motivated than ever! I have always loved my blog and always will, but I am so happy to be back in the swing of things. I have so many ideas and plans for the blog and I can't wait to share them with you all. Again, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the support on last week's post and your lovely messages! I am extremely happy to be back and blogging again.

20. You shouldn't feel bad for saying no

This is something that I have always struggled with...saying no. I am the type of person that feels bad for saying no and always wants to help others. But, one thing that I have learnt a lot recently is that saying no doesn't have to be a bad thing. Putting yourself first is so important and no one should have to take on too much! You shouldn't feel bad for saying no if that's what you want to do. Again, there is such a pressure on people to go to every single thing they have planned and always be doing something. A lot of people feel bad after saying no but it doesn't always have to be a negative thing!

21. Sometimes music is the only thing that takes your mind off everything else

Music is something that I listen to everyday and couldn't live without! I love listening to all types of music and I love discovering new artists. Whether it's a film soundtrack, popular songs or old songs...I love listening to them all! Music can help me take my mind off things and sometimes puts me in a much better mood. I love that everyone can like any type of music they want or even create any type of music they want. I have learnt over the years that it is something that can bring anyone together and change and atmosphere in an instant. The albums that I am listening to this week are; A Star is Born soundtrack, Mumford and Sons and Shawn Mendes.

So there we have it! There's 21 things that I have learnt in 21 years. I can't believe I am already writing this post as it didn't seem long ago that I was writing the last it just me that feels like this year has gone by in a flash? I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and I hope it gave you some reminders of what's important in life and hopefully reassured you of some life tips and thoughts! I'm thinking of writing more blog posts in more depth and detail about some of the above topics. If there is one in particular that you want to see, please let me know!

I hope you all have had an amazing weekend and I will see you all again next Sunday!

Kellie xx
